Quilt Exhibition 12th-17th October at The Work Shop

We are very excited to announce that we will be holding a quilt exhibition at The Work Shop displaying the work of local quilters. A variety of quilts including art quilts, appliqué, wall hanging and traditional designs both machine and hand quilted will be on display at The Work Shop from the 12th-17th October, culminating in a weekend of quilt demonstrations by our in-house quilting teacher. We are also pleased to announce that we will be offering free lessons in treadle sewing and the use of hand cranks as well as offering advice on maintenance and cleaning of vintage people powered sewing machines. If you have a vintage machine and always wanted to know how to sew at speed without the use of electricity then this is the workshop for you. Throughout the weekend our vintage machine expert will be on hand to answer any questions and give lessons. We will also have a lovely selection of serviced eco machines for sale as well as a wonderful selection of quilting fabric, notions and books to inspire you.
If you would like to submit a quilt for the exhibition please email a photo and the measurements along with approximate value to workshop2@sallybourneinteriors.co.uk before 20th September, after which we will shortlist the quilts we can display this year. Categories for the quilts are Appliqué, Art Quilt, Machine Quilt and Hand Quilt.

Lacework Jewellery
from £22.99
We all love this beautiful selection of handcrafted jewellery. Individually handmade in Turkey, these charming designs are made using the traditional techniques of Turkish needlework which have been used for centuries. The flower designs go back to a time when women would make keepsakes for their husbands in times of war. The patterns are created by knotting the high-quality silk or cotton thread with a small needle. Available from Muswell Hill.

NEW ECO PRODUCT
Recycled Sari Silk Yarn - from £7.95
100g skeins
Imported from Nepal, where it is spun by women to provide extra income for their families, these fair trade sari silks are hand spun into this beautifully textured yarn. They are spun from the remnants of the finest sari silks which create a much finer yarn than is normally achieved in other grades of sari silk yarn.
Each skein is unique in its colour ways and natural inconsistencies of the fibre, allow you to create eye-catching and unique knitted pieces.
We recommend the silks are hand washed and dried before knitting up, this loosens the fibres making it softer and nicer to knit with.

WORKSHOP FOCUS - MEET THE MAKER
 |
Until 5 years ago Sarah worked as a client relationship manager in the City of London. A gift of a soap making book changed all that and with some savings and fingers firmly crossed she left her job and started a little soap business from her cottage in Crouch End. She also discovered a passion for sewing and vintage sewing machines. She now teaches Soap Making, Quilting and Learn To Use A Sewing Machine at The Work Shop as well as stitching lovely accessories and making delicious natural soap for Sally Bourne Interiors.
